I joined Thunix in March 2025 and am very much enjoying living in the alternative Internet space. I'm thankful for services, like Thunix, which are a bit of a haven from the corporate-owned social media and news outlets.
I'm using emacs to maintain this page. I'm using this as an opportunity to become comfortable with hard coding HTML and CSS.
Feel free to email me to chat! I'm looking forward to getting to share and commiserate sometime soon.
I'm a 50-something gay guy from the Boston metro area (jeez, I'm officially *old* now). I've got various interests that include (but are not limited to):
The more I've used corporate social media, the more disillusioned I've become at its ability to spread misinformation and to sow discord. The 1% is using these platforms to separate and divide us from one another. I've taken control of my own consumption of online social media and am working towards diversifying the sources I use to keep myself informed.
I enjoy sitting down at my keyboard and free associating. I always find it interesting to come back to what I write a few days later and either try to figure out what I was thinking, or how to link them all together to make something I can expand upon and into a work a reader might want to invest their time into.
I've done other writing projects in the past (RIP NaNoWriMo) and I'm looking to use my thunixspace for the like.
One aspect of modern American society is the overt rejection of community service. Community service is seen as a punishment by the legal system; it should be a requirement for everyone to give back at least one time on a regular basis. Humanity was able to evolve and flourish by cooperation between people and groups of people.
Taking this to the next logical step, mutual aid could be one major component of moving forward in a post-capitalist society. It's becoming clearer by the day, that reliance on the government and authorities is short-sighted. We need to take a more active role in our daily lives and become more active in supporting ourselves and those around us.
My basic premise that underlies most of how I think and act, has a strong foundation in ecology. I try to refrain from anything single-use, opting instead for reusable materials, containers, composting, transferring analogue documents into a useable electronic format, etc.
The rising dominance of the, 'Broligarchy', has been an eye-opening development in the modern Internet. Elon Musk of Twitter/X has turned that platform into a right-wing echo chamber after he purchased the company. Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook jumped on the broligarchy bandwagon when he went on numerous podcasts and proclaimed that tech wasn't masculine enough, whatever that means. The technocrats are creating and supporting the rise of a fascist state, with the anticipation of being the benefactors of the spoils from the breakdown of the administrative state.
In these times, especially very recently, it's become clear there are forces internally and externally that are actively working towards disassembling and attacking the U.S.' system of social democracy (even in the sorry and weak condition it is in).
